The Pediatric nephrology department of Christian Medical College, Vellore proudly announces the "3rd Pediatric renal transplant conference - Immunology, infections and Therapeutic Interventions in Transplant" to be held on 21st and 22nd March 2025. This will be preceded by a Pre-conference workshop on "Pharmacology of Therapeutic Interventions", in conjunction with the Clinical Pharmacology Department on 20th Mar 2025. This conference serves as a platform for sharing knowledge, exchanging ideas, and fostering collaboration among specialists from various disciplines involved in pediatric kidney transplantation
The key highlight of the conference is the workshop on the "Pharmacology of Therapeutic Interventions." The specialized session focuses on the intricate aspects of drug therapy in pediatric kidney transplant patients. The workshop aims to provide the participants with laboratory demonstrations at the Clinical Pharmacology departments of the various techniques used in pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies. During the conference, participants will explore varioustopics related tolmmune assessment and monitoring of children prior to transplant. In addition, the latest developments on the efficacy and safety of immunosuppressive medications, strategies during infections, pharmacokinetics and pharmacogenomics, monitoring drug levels, and minimization of adverse effects will be discussed. Emerging therapies and introduction to novel therapeutic interventions and their potential applications in pediatric kidney transplantation will be covered.
The conference also addresses the challenges of infections in pediatric patient transplant patients, diagnostic evaluation and strategies to improve detection and outcomes. These infections are a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in this vulnerable population, underscoring the critical importance of vigilant preventive measures and prompt intervention. The spectrum of infections encountered in these patients is broad, ranging from common bacterial and viral infections to opportunistic pathogens that take advantage of the immunosuppressed state. Consequently, healthcare providers must remain acutely aware of the local epidemiology and emerging infectious threats to provide optimal care for pediatric kidney transplant recipients.
This knowledge-sharing initiative will contribute to the development of more effective and safer treatment protocols for young patients, ultimately enhancing their quality of life and long-term transplant success rates. These discussions will be of prime interest to young postgraduates and specialists who are looking at a career in nephrology and urology. Our target audience includes pediatric and adult trainees in nephrology, hematology, infectious diseases and urology and would also include social workers, transplant coordinators, nurses and general practitioners interested in increasing their knowledge and awareness of kidney transplant.
The registration fee is attractively priced for students to encourage postgraduates to attend.
